Gateforth Park managers Paul and Carol have successfully completed a 10-mile charity challenge in support of Combat Stress, a charity dedicated to helping veterans facing mental health challenges, a cause that holds close personal significance for them.
The goal was to complete 10 miles throughout March. Paul decided to take on the added challenge of completing the distance in military style, so wearing boots and carrying a Bergen backpack weighing 25kg, he pushed himself through the full 10-mile route in one go. Carol completed the same distance alongside him in trainers, without a Bergen – showing equal commitment but a lot more sense!
Their route began at Gateforth Park, following the scenic canal path into Selby, continuing through to Thorpe Willoughby, and then looping back towards the park. The final couple of miles were completed around Gateforth Park itself, where they were met with fantastic support from residents who came out to cheer them on to the finish.
Paul and Carol would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who came out to support them, as well as to all those who donated. Your encouragement and generosity were greatly appreciated.
