We’re thrilled to be celebrating a very special milestone here at Gateforth Park — it’s been five years since Mick and Kathy moved in!

From the early days when the park was just beginning to take shape, to now being a thriving and welcoming community, Mick and Kathy have been an important part of our journey.

Back in 2020, they were the first customers to take the leap and commit to buying a home at Gateforth Park. They understood our ambitions and were able to envisage our plans for the 45-acre site — even when it was difficult to see beyond the remnants of its former use as a mushroom farm!

We still remember the day they arrived, when there was no electricity and work was just beginning on the secure gated wall. Little wonder, then, that when their granddaughter saw their new home for the first time she exclaimed: “Looks like you live on an airfield!”

Speaking this week, Mick and Kathy told us: “It’s five years ago since we took the keys and moved in to Gateforth Park, and it’s something we can genuinely celebrate.

“Over the years we’ve seen the park develop and the vision realised. At the same time, we’ve become increasingly settled and enjoyed our home, the park and the growing community spirit.

“This is a credit to the owners and the team, who have been supportive, looked after the area and ensured the rules are adhered to. Those are the things that make this a great place to live! So a big “Thank You” — and here’s to many more years.”

“Our happy place”

We asked Mick and Kathy to reflect on their time at Gateforth Park, and here’s what they said:

• How did you feel when you first received the keys to your home five years ago at Gateforth Park?
It genuinely felt like we were at the start of something exciting. There wasn’t much here yet, but we knew from the owners Phil and Tim, and their team, what the vision was.

• What changes or developments have stood out to you most over the past five years?
The overall growth of the site, the landscaping, and how well it’s now managed and looked after. There’s a shared commitment from residents and management to respect the development, the environment and each other.

• How has living at Gateforth Park impacted your lifestyle?
We feel very relaxed, safe, and part of a community of like-minded people. A great place to retire (at last!).

• What do you enjoy most about the community spirit at the park?
The events and clubs bring people together – but even if you’re not involved, there’s still a lovely atmosphere and friendly feel to the place.

• In what ways have the park team supported you during your time here?
The team have supported us from the beginning — from pre-sale to moving in. It was great to be part of a new venture together. More recently, it’s reassuring to see the park management ensuring everyone sticks to the park rules. This is one of the main things that makes Gateforth Park a great place to live.

• What does “home” mean to you now compared to when you first arrived?
It’s our happy place. We’ve made a few tweaks and changes and developed quite a mature garden in a relatively short time.

• Do you have a favourite memory or moment from your time living here?
Quite a few! From seeing the home arrive, to being in lockdown during covid, to community get-togethers. The sunsets and steam trains are great too. We’re looking forward to creating more memories in the future.

• What makes Gateforth Park a special place to live, in your opinion?
The plot sizes, layout, countryside setting, the rules and guidelines… and being close to several lovely places in Yorkshire.

• How would you describe the park to someone thinking of moving here?
Peace and quiet in a great setting, safe to walk around at any time. There’s the opportunity to develop your own space and do as much or as little as you want, surrounded by like-minded people.

• If you could sum up your Gateforth experience in three words, what would they be?
Peaceful, Relaxing, Fun.

A thriving community

For our team at Gateforth, it’s been an absolute pleasure to experience Mick and Kathy’s journey to their perfect home.

In the five years since they (and Doris the dog) moved in, Gateforth Park has truly thrived. We’ve welcomed new owners to more than 80 homes, creating a vibrant and friendly community that is growing all the time.

And the site now looks even better than we could ever have imagined, with extensive green space, a woodland area, two fishing lakes and the most amazing sunsets over the surrounding countryside.

As we look forward to starting Phase 3 of the development in the near future, we’d like to thank Mick and Kathy for believing in us back in those early days, and for being such an important part of the Gateforth Park story and community.
