We couldn’t be more pleased with the interest we’ve had in Gateforth Park since launching our show homes in March, and we’re well on track to welcome our first residents next month.

When lockdown was imposed just after we unveiled our first show homes and plots, we were naturally concerned about the impact it would have on interest in our new residential park.

But, as it turned out, we needn’t have worried. Despite these uncertain times, reservations and sales of Gateforth Park homes and plots have exceeded our expectations at this stage. We’ve had lots of enquiries from people across the UK wanting to find out more and have seen a marked increase in enquiries and traffic to our website, with a definite surge of interest after lockdown.

The feedback we’ve had so far suggests that people are impressed with the size of the plots, and the quality and attention to detail of both the site in general and the park homes.

Once complete, Gateforth Park will comprise two private fishing lakes, woodland and a dog walking area, a village green, shop and community centre. The park homes on offer are being made by top UK manufacturer and a long-standing partner of ours, Prestige Homeseeker Park & Leisure Homes.

Phil Brierley, director of York House Leisure (YHL) who are developing Gateforth Park, says: “Some of the people we’ve spoken to have actually been spurred on by the coronavirus pandemic to take a closer look at the benefits of living on a residential park.

“Residential parks have become more desirable over the last few years, particularly among those in their 50s and 60s looking to downsize once the children have moved out of the family home. During the current climate, people are looking for a more relaxed way of life in a spacious, rural environment. They’re also more aware of the value of being part of the kind of close-knit community that you find on a residential park.”

YHL was established in 1965, and owns and manages four award-winning holiday parks across North Yorkshire, as well as a residential park in Ripon.

Phil says: “From the outset we recognised that this site could offer something really special in the residential park market. Its location is perfect, next to Selby Golf Club and with great transport links to some of the best places in North Yorkshire.

“We’ll be applying to Gateforth all the elements that make our other parks a success, such as immaculately-maintained grounds, carefully considered landscaping and a focus on encouraging wildlife.”
